Module 1

Prosthetic Planning to Final Delivery ‘The A to Z’

  • Apply “beginning with the end in mind” criteria for long-term prosthetic success
  • Understand implant designs, biomechanics, and the occlusal & restorative perspective
  • Understand and identify prosthetic components
  • Communicate effectively with dental labs for prosthetic design
  • Screen patients for medical factors that modify or contraindicate implant therapy — anticoagulant therapy, antiresorptive medication, glycemic control, smoking
  • Apply a written case-selection rubric to classify a case as straightforward, borderline, or outside the scope of general practice
  • Establish recall and hygiene protocols and recognize the early signs of peri-implant disease

Module 2

Surgical Planning and Workflow & CBCT Workshop

  • Assemble a complete diagnostic record set for documentation and planning
  • Evaluate CBCT and perform digital treatment planning
  • Identify and measure critical anatomy on CBCT: inferior alveolar canal and anterior loop, mental foramen, submandibular fossa and lingual concavity, maxillary sinus floor, incisive canal
  • Establish safety margins between planned implant position and vital structures
  • Perform virtual implant placement driven by the restorative plan
  • Apply the principles of implant surgery for predictable outcomes
  • Understand surgical instruments and kits
  • Select and design a flap appropriate to the surgical site
  • Execute the implant surgical sequence in detail, from incision through closure
  • Interpret insertion torque and ISQ values as measures of primary stability
  • Achieve tension-free primary closure using simple interrupted suturing

Module 3

PRF & Sticky Bone / Atraumatic Exo & Socket Grafting

  • Explain the biological rationale for autologous platelet concentrates in regenerative procedures
  • Perform phlebotomy and process PRF safely and confidently
  • Produce sticky bone with predictable handling characteristics and graft stability
  • Explain post-extraction socket healing and the pattern of ridge resorption
  • Select and use instruments for atraumatic extraction
  • Determine when ridge preservation is indicated and when it is not
  • Select graft material and membrane according to socket morphology

Hands-on: Phlebotomy · PRF processing · Sticky bone formation and membrane preparation · Use of different extraction tools · Socket grafting step by step

Module 4

Introduction to Sinus Augmentation and Guided Bone Regeneration

  • Differentiate the crestal approach from the lateral window approach and identify the indications and limits of each
  • Use crestal sinus lift kits and tools in correct step-by-step sequence
  • Recognize relevant pathology, pharmacology, and complication management considerations
  • Explain the principles of bone biology and the keys to guided bone regeneration
  • Select cases with predictable potential for gain in bone dimension
  • Perform buccal veneer grafting without membrane fixation
  • Select flap design and suturing technique for optimal healing over a graft

Hands-on: Step-by-step use of kits to lift sinus membranes on models · Veneer bone grafting and suturing exercise

Module 5

Guided Surgery / Mastering Treatment Planning

  • Explain the principles of guided surgery and the comprehensive workflow of a digital surgical system
  • Compare guide systems available in the market and their respective advantages and limitations
  • Determine when guided surgery is indicated over freehand placement
  • Consolidate the surgical and prosthetic principles taught across Modules 1–5
  • Formulate a comprehensive treatment plan for your own approved live surgery case
  • Anticipate the surgical sequence, instrumentation, and intraoperative decision points
  • Apply the “do’s” and “don’ts” of live surgery case preparation
  • Identify gaps in your own planning through structured mentor and peer case review

Supervised Live Surgeries

  • Review and confirm the approved plan, surgical script, and instrument list prepared in advance
  • Apply the complete workflow from records and planning through placement and closure

  • Dr. Scott Jung

    Dr. Scott Jung

    DMD, FICOI

    Dr. Scott Jung graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2014 and is an implant clinician at Chrysalis Implant Centre.

    Dedicated to advancing his expertise in implant dentistry, Dr. Jung completed both the Comprehensive Implant Residency (CIR) and Advanced Implant Residency (AIR) at BITES Institute. He combines advanced surgical training with digital workflows—including CBCT, intraoral scanning, and 3D printing—to deliver precise, predictable implant treatment.

    As a faculty member at BITES Institute, Dr. Jung mentors clinicians in modern implant dentistry while continuing to treat complex implant cases in private practice. His teaching is grounded in practical clinical experience, precision, and evidence-based care.

  • Dr. Sangwoo Ham

    Dr. Sangwoo Ham

    DMD, FICOI, DABOI, FAAID

    Dr. Sangwoo Ham is a general dentist focused on implant dentistry, full-arch rehabilitation, advanced surgery, and sedation dentistry. He earned his BSc in Pharmacology with honours and DMD from the University of British Columbia.

    He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology (DABOI), Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (FAAID), and Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (FICOI). He also serves as part-time faculty at UBC Faculty of Dentistry, where he contributes to the clinical education of dental students.

    In full-time private practice in Coquitlam, BC, Dr. Ham provides comprehensive care including immediate implants, guided bone regeneration, sinus augmentation, soft tissue surgery, implant overdentures, and full-arch rehabilitation.

    Dr. Ham completed the BITES Institute Mastership Program and currently serves as faculty and key instructor in the Comprehensive Implant Residency at BITES Institute. He is a Key Opinion Leader for MegaGen Canada and an active member of the MINEC education network, and has lectured internationally across North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

    His clinical philosophy is simple: implant dentistry should be evidence-based, practical, and driven by long-term outcomes.

  • Dr. Mark Kwon

    Dr. Mark Kwon

    DMD, FICOI

    Dr. Mark Kwon earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of British Columbia. He is the founder and Chair of BITES Institute and a full-time implant surgeon at Chrysalis Implant Centre, where his practice is dedicated exclusively to implant dentistry.

    For more than 20 years, Dr. Kwon has focused on advanced implant surgery, bone grafting, immediate implant placement, and full-arch rehabilitation, having placed over 10,000 dental implants. His clinical expertise includes immediate implant solutions and MKFP1®/full-arch treatment protocols, combining surgical precision with efficient, patient-centered care.

    As founder of BITES Institute, Dr. Kwon has trained and mentored thousands of dentists through comprehensive implant residencies, surgical mentorships, cadaver programs, prosthetic training, and study clubs. He is recognized as one of Canada’s leading educators in implant dentistry and has lectured internationally across North America, Asia, and Latin America, including live surgical demonstrations at the Pacific Dental Conference.

    Dr. Kwon is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) and completed advanced training at the Misch International Implant Institute. Beyond clinical practice and education, he remains committed to advancing implant dentistry through innovation, mentorship, and service to the dental community.

  • Dr. Bernard Jin

    Dr. Bernard Jin

    DMD

    Dr. Bernard Jin obtained his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of British Columbia. He received subsequent training in the General Practice Residency Program (an extensive multidisciplinary program) at Vancouver Hospital, BC Children’s Hospital, and UBC Specialty Clinic where he developed a passion for periodontics and oral surgery. Dr. Jin was presented with the Dr. S. Ioanidis Award for Excellence during his internship.

    In full-time practice, Dr. Jin provides treatments with emphasis on implant dentistry, full mouth rehabilitation, and advanced osseous and soft tissue grafting. He is an active member and Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.

    Since joining BITES Institute in 2008 as a faculty instructor, Dr. Jin currently holds the office of Co-Chair. He enjoys teaching advanced implant placement and tissue grafting techniques to fellow dentists, and has lectured nationally at various study clubs and venues including the Pacific Dental Conference Live Surgery Stage.

    Dr. Jin has completed multiple extensive programs throughout North America in dental implantology, periodontal surgery, dental sedation, cosmetic dentistry, and orthodontics. He received his Intravenous Sedation Training from the UBC/VGH GP residency program and the Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry, and is registered with the College of Dental Surgeons of BC to provide moderate sedation.

    He volunteers extensively at the Downtown Vancouver Eastside Walk-In Dental Clinic, the Douglas College Community Clinic, and the Tri-City volunteer community dental clinic, providing emergent surgical treatment to those in need. Dr. Jin is a commissioned officer in the Canadian Armed Forces and also holds Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education degrees.

  • Dr. Paul Lee

    Dr. Paul Lee

    DMD, FICOI

    Dr. Paul Lee earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of British Columbia after completing both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science at Simon Fraser University.

    Dr. Lee is the Prosthetic Clinical Lead at Chrysalis Implant Centre, where he focuses on full-arch implant rehabilitation and restorative implant dentistry. Working alongside the surgical team, he leads the prosthetic planning and restoration of complex implant cases, helping patients achieve functional, aesthetic, and long-lasting outcomes.

    In addition to his expertise in full-arch restorations, Dr. Lee is certified in moderate IV sedation and is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) and a member of the World Academy of Ultrasonic Piezoelectric Bone Surgery (WAUPS).

    As a faculty member at BITES Institute, Dr. Lee teaches the restorative principles of implant dentistry with an emphasis on prosthetic planning, digital workflows, occlusion, and full-arch rehabilitation. His teaching bridges surgical and restorative concepts, equipping clinicians with practical protocols for predictable implant outcomes.

  • Dr. Michael Wong

    Dr. Michael Wong

    DMD

    Dr. Michael Wong obtained his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of British Columbia. He is a full-time clinician at his private practice, performing all aspects of general dentistry, including implant and implant-related surgeries.

    He has completed the Nobel Biocare Hands-on Training Residency Program, the IDEAS implant residency, and the BITES basic and advanced courses. His passion for learning is forever ongoing — among other dental programs, Dr. Wong has been a member of Spear Education since 2014 and the UBC Advanced Orthodontic Study Club since 1995.

    He holds a junior faculty position at BITES Institute as a presenter and clinical instructor of the Comprehensive Implant Residency (CIR) and the Live Surgery Study Club (LSS). He enjoys helping fellow doctors achieve clinical excellence in oral implantology by sharing the knowledge and experience he has gained throughout the years.
